New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court gave notice in a petition filed by a teenager asking for permission to donate his liver to help his severely ill father live.

According to the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act of 1994, only majors are permitted to donate their organs, which is why the minor contacted the SC.

When scheduling the case for hearing on Monday, a bench presided over by CJI U U Lalit requested the attendance of a responsible person from the state of UP's health department, NIE reported.

The minor has been instructed by the court to contact the relevant hospital, which may conduct preliminary investigations to determine whether the minor is a donor and whether his donation would be practical and legal.
