Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have imposed a one-month ban on flying drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, and hot air balloons in the city, citing security concerns and the risk of sabotage, officials said on Thursday.

The prohibitory order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, will be in effect from April 4 to May 5. According to an official, the restrictions were enforced to prevent potential threats from terrorists and anti-social elements, who could use such flying objects in attacks targeting VVIPs, endangering public safety, damaging property, and disturbing law and order within the Mumbai Police Commissionerate area.

The order emphasized the necessity of implementing preventive measures to curb possible acts of sabotage using aerial vehicles. As per the directive, no drone, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, or paraglider operations will be permitted within Mumbai Police's jurisdiction, except for aerial surveillance conducted by the police or with explicit permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).

Violators of the order will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which penalizes disobedience of a lawful order issued by a public servant, the order stated.
