Aurangabad: Police took three men to custody over alleged harassment of a hijab-wearing woman in Maharashtra's Aurangabad. They harassed the woman accusing her of roaming around with a Hindu man on Monday, PTI reported.

Police informed that the proceedings for registering a case on the issue had been initiated at the Begampura police station here, but the victim of the alleged incident has not filed a complaint so far.

The incident allegedly happened in the Makai Gate area on Monday, and a video featuring it is viral on social media. It shows some men accosting a woman wearing a hijab and snatching her mobile phone. The woman is seen pleading with her harassers to return her phone, PTI reports.

Police identified the woman using the video, it is learned and asked her to lodge a complaint, to which she refused.

"This incident occurred on Monday. The youths suspected that a Muslim woman was roaming with a Hindu man. They followed the woman and harassed her. Police have initiated the process to register a suo motu complaint after the woman refused to submit a complaint," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepak Girhe.

The woman was in the city to visit the famous Bibi Ka Maqbara in Aurangabad, another police officer claimed.
