New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi mocked the BJP-led Centre, saying that when people of the country are struggling with rising prices, the Narendra Modi government is sleeping like ‘Kumbhakaran’. He said that people are forced to compromise on small things related to daily needs, PTI reported.

In a video he recently shared on social media, he visited a vegetable market in Giri Nagar in New Delhi and interacted with housewives who narrated their hardships due to rising prices of eatables.

Rising inflation has spoiled the budget of the common person’s kitchen, and the government is sleeping like Kumbhakaran, he said.

In a post that accompanied his video, he said that he had visited a local vegetable market a few days ago, and he talked with vendors and customers while shopping to know how the budget of the common people is deteriorating and how inflation has troubled them. He said that people are struggling with rising prices and are forced to compromise on small things of daily needs.

In his Hindi post, he said that he discussed the prices of garlic, peas, mushrooms and other vegetables with the vendors and customers, and he heard real experiences from them. Garlic is Rs 400 per kg, which was Rs 40 once, and peas at Rs 120 per kg have shaken everyone’s budget, Rahul said.

He wondered what people would eat and what they would save. He said that he had a chat over tea and made a close understanding of the problems of the lives of housewives, such as how their income remained stagnant, how inflation kept rising uncontrollably, how saving had become impossible and how it has become difficult to arrange even a rickshaw fare of Rs 10 due to just meeting the food expenses.

He asked people to share their experiences with him if they were also experiencing the effects of inflation.
