No more surgical strikes, reclaim POK: TMC's Abhishek Banerjee
text_fieldsKolkata: Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee has called on the Union government to take decisive action in reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Speaking on Sunday, Banerjee emphasized that symbolic actions like "surgical strikes" or empty threats to Pakistan would no longer suffice following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. "It’s time to teach them a lesson in the language they understand. It’s time to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Period," he declared.
Banerjee also criticized the Union government for allegedly focusing on political narratives rather than addressing the lapses that allowed the Pahalgam attack to occur. "In the aftermath of the terror attack, instead of investigating the failures that led to this tragedy, the government appears more interested in pushing a narrative that serves the interests of a particular political party," Banerjee said, indirectly referencing the BJP.
He further urged leaders to rise above partisan politics and confront the issue decisively. Trinamool Congress has expressed its support for any retaliatory measures the Union government may take in response to the Pahalgam attack.
Among the several tourists killed in the attack, three were from West Bengal, including one Central Intelligence Bureau official. Additionally, Havaldar Jhantu Ali Sheikh, a member of the Para Special Forces of the Indian Army from Nadia district, was killed in an ambush by terrorists last week.
