Bengaluru: Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at a party meeting today said that he is unhappy with winning only 135 seats in the assembly election. He said the Congress should "perform well in every poll from now on".

"Let me confess you all something. I am not happy with the 135 seats we achieved in the assembly polls. Our focus needs to be in the right place and that is the upcoming general elections. Congress should perform well in every poll from now on, and we all need to work hard. This is just a beginning and do not get lazy with just one win," said the Karnataka Congress chief.

Shivakumar and Siddharamaiah took oath as Deputy CM and Chief Minister yesterday. Congress has returned to power after 10 years in the state.

The Lok Sabha election is key to Karnataka as it has 28 seats, the seventh largest number. In 2019, the BJP won 25 seats. The Congress and JDS won in Bangalore rural and Hassan respectively. The Congress is hoping for better results this time because it has the support of the Lingayat and the AHINDA, an old social combination of minorities, Other Backward Classes, and Dalits.
