Online fraud: 181.17 crore lost in May in Kerala

Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state lost 181.17 crores through online fraud in May. Out of which Rs 1.25 crore was recovered.

The Chief Minister also informed the Assembly that crores of rupees are lost every month in Kerala through online fraud. According to the FIR registered between December 2023 and May 2024, the Chief Minister disclosed the amount lost in online fraud. 54.31 crore was lost in December 2023. Out of which 73.41 lakh was recovered. The loss in January 2024 was Rs 32.84 crore. 84.57 lakh was recovered.

126.86 crore was lost in February. Out of which Rs 1.87 crore was recovered. 86.11 crore rupees were extorted in March. Out of which Rs 1.6.55 crore was recovered. In April, Rs 136.28 crores was lost. Out of which Rs.33.06 lakh was recovered.

The chief minister said that the change in the nature of crimes due to the spread of information technology, which is changing day by day, is huge. Najeeb Kanthapuram, N. Shamsuddin, UA Latif, and AKM Ashraf said the crimes are being committed from anywhere in the world which makes finding the criminals tough.
