Operation Sindoor: Bengaluru man arrested for posting video against PM

Bengaluru police have arrested a 25-year-old electrician named Nawaz from Mangammanapalya for allegedly posting a video on social media containing remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following Operation Sindoor.
According to officials, the video was shared through Nawaz’s social media account titled ‘Public Servant’. He has been placed in judicial custody and sent to Bengaluru Central Jail.
In the video, which went viral, Nawaz is seen saying, “Today, India and Pakistan are at war. Why hasn’t Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence been bombed yet? When people were living peacefully, this war-like situation was created by PM Modi. His residence should be bombed first,” Indian Express reported.
The Bandepalya police took cognizance of the matter and registered a First Information Report (FIR), successfully locating the accused individual.
Previously, the Karnataka Police had filed an FIR against a postgraduate student for allegedly posting a message opposing Operation Sindoor, a military operation launched by the Indian armed forces in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.
In a separate incident, the Konaje police in Mangaluru registered an FIR on Sunday following a complaint. According to the police, Reshma N Bariga, a resident of Belalu near Belthangady town, shared a post on Instagram that criticized the Indian armed forces’ strikes in Pakistan.
The Mangaluru University student “used the hashtag ‘#dikkaraoperationSindoora’ (Down with Operation Sindoor) after writing poetic lines about the futility of war. In her poem, written in Kannada, she stated that the outcome of war is ‘total darkness’,” police said, according to the Indian Express.
The post quickly sparked controversy, leading Reshma to delete it. Despite this, she later shared another post reaffirming her opposition to Operation Sindoor.
Following the complaint, the police registered an FIR under relevant sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds such as religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language, and acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), 353(1)(b) and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
