Srinagar: Reeling still from the worst terrorist attack in recent years, the Jammu and Kashmir government has shut down dozens of resorts and tourist spots in the region, NDTV reported.

The terror attack that took place on April 22 at the scenic meadows of Pahalgam left 26 civilians dead, leading India to take countermeasures against Pakistan.

Authorities have now shut down at least 48 resorts alongside closing more than half of spots like Doodhpatri and Verinag to tourists.

The decision to shut down tourist places comes as uncertainty looms large over the region’s burgeoning tourism sector.

It is reported that tourists are fleeing the territory, just as many others are cancelling their tour plans.

From a bustling town with tourists crowding its streets a week ago, Pahalgam now has become a nightmare in the minds of many who survived Tuesday’s horrific attack.

It is reported that following the terror attack, the number of tourists have dropped significantly indicating uncertainty.

The drop in tourism will have a huge impact on the livelihoods of the local population, according to the report.
