New Delhi: The schedule for the Presidential elections has been announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The election will take place on July 18, and the counting will happen on July 21, 2022.

The tenure of the current President of Indian Ram Nath Kovind will end on July 24 this year. According to the constitution, the election for the next president must happen before the term of the current president finishes.

"A total of 4,809 electors to vote in the Presidential elections 2022. No political party can issue a whip to its members," said chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

The President in India is elected by the members of the electoral college comprising of elected members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

"Election Commission fully geared to conduct elections for the post of President of India in a free and fair way," said CEC Rajiv Kumar.
