Sangh Parivar's online attack on Pahalgam victim's wife: NCW condemns
text_fieldsNew Delhi: It was on Thursday that the wife of the Indian Navy officer who got killed by terrorists in Pahalgam went public for the first time after she witnessed her newlywed husband being shot dead by terrorists. In her comments on the day, she appealed to the masses not to target Muslims and Kashmiris with hatred, but right-wing Hindutva groups did not receive it with open hands but attacked her online with trolls.
Now, the National Commission for Women has come out supporting the Navy Officer Vinay Narwal's wife, Himanshi.
In her appeal to the nation, Himanshi said on Thursday that she just wanted the entire nation to pray for her husband and that whatever he is, he is at peace, which is the only thing she wishes. She continued that there should be no hatred towards anyone and noted that people are spewing hate at Muslims or Kashmiris. She said, “We do not want this. We want peace and only peace,” Hindustan Times qoted.
After her statement, which irked the Sangh Parivar, Himanshi faced severe attack through social media via trolls. The insults that came in cyberspace were like, Himanshi does not even deserve her husband's pension.
Condemning the attack on Himanshi, the NCW wrote on X, “After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal ji, the way his wife Ms. Himanshi Narwal ji is being targeted on social media in relation to one of her statements is extremely reprehensible and unfortunate.”
"Trolling a woman on the basis of her ideological expression or personal life is not acceptable in any form," it added. Expressing any agreement or disagreement should always be done with decency and within constitutional rights, the body stated.
"The National Commission for Women is committed to protect the dignity and respect of every woman," NCW added.
