Senior journo who alleged irregularities in Bihar polls booked
text_fieldsPatna: The Indian Express reported that award-winning senior journalist Ajit Anjum has been booked in a case accusing him of interfering with Bihar’s electoral roll revision and provoking communal discord.
Anjum was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and The Representation of Peoples Act, 1951, after he visited a poll booth in Balia on July 12.
Ajit Anjum, whose YouTube channel is running a series on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, has been reporting from various places in the state over the past few days, PTI reported.
He uploaded a 45-minute, 39-second video on YouTube in which he interviewed several persons in the Ballia subdivision.
Before the lodging of the FIR came into public, the Begusarai collectorate came out with a release against Anjum, accusing him and his associates of “targeting members of a particular community” and going about their work in a manner that could “trigger communal tensions”. The release said that Anjum and his team “shall be solely responsible for any unrest that erupts in Ballia sub-division as a result of their video feature”.
Now, the case was registered with him based on the complaint by a booth-level officer (BLO), Mohammed Ansrarul Haque. The journalist has been charged with criminal trespass, disobeying a lawful order, preventing a public servant from doing their duty and attempting to hurt religious feelings via sections of BNS.
The BLO’s complaint read, “I, Mohammad Ansarul Haq, BLO Part No. 16145, Sahibpur Kamal Assembly constituency, was uploading counting forms from the BLO App at the Block Auditorium in Ballia on July 12, 2025. Around 9:30 am, YouTuber Ajit Anjum, his associates, and a cameraman entered the auditorium without authorisation and started questioning me about the number of voters in my booth, how many forms I had distributed, and how many I had received back.”
However, Anjum claimed that he had found several enumeration forms at the booth – some without photos, and others partially filled out or without signatures.
Sharing a screenshot of the FIR lodged against him, the journalist slammed the BJP-led NDA government for making a Muslim BLO its pawn to move against him, PTI reported.
