Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials in the Charminar zone to file an action taken report on complaints of illegal cattle transport and slaughter within city limits.

Justice NV Shravan Kumar issued the order during a hearing on a writ petition by the Telangana Goshala Federation, seeking strict enforcement of GHMC Act provisions that ban keeping animals causing nuisance and prohibit cattle entry for slaughter without commissioner approval.

Petitioner's counsel highlighted thousands of cattle being smuggled into Hyderabad without permission—especially ahead of Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid)—and slaughtered illegally, despite repeated pleas to authorities going unheeded.

The judge queried if goshalas needed permission to shelter such cattle, to which counsel clarified they did but were currently rescuing police-seized animals.

Noting the arguments, the court instructed the state to provide further details and a status note on actions taken. The case will resume after the report is filed.
