Mysuru: Tensions arose in Karnataka’s Mysuru after a derogatory post on social media, reportedly written in Arabic, against Aam Admi Party's (AAP's) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav went viral. The post contained derogatory remarks against the political leader of a particular community and was allegedly made to hurt religious sentiments, India Today reported.
The post was intended to celebrate the defeat of all the leaders and their parties in the Delhi Assembly polls.
After the post went viral, a group of people belonging to the minority community gathered before the Udayagir police station, demanding action against the accused, who is a resident of Kalyannagar in Mysuru.
Despite police efforts to pacify the crowd, fetching religious leaders to request and make them calm down, the crowd turned violent. They raised slogans and started pelting stones at the police station, taking the situation out of control. Police resorted to lathi charges and fired tear gas later to disperse the crowd, IANS reported.
Later, police deployed heavy troops to maintain peace. Police and local political leaders appealed to the crowd to keep peace and promised that action would be taken against the accused. Thus, the crowd was convinced and managed to make them withdraw their protest.
However, tension is still present in the area.
