New Delhi: A fresh report states that roughly 38 hours after the deadly Ahmedabad plane crash, another Air India flight from Delhi nearly met a deadly crash after it dropped around 900 feet in altitude shortly after take off.

Times of India reported that following the incident both pilots of the Vienna-bound flight were grounded pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.

The Boeing 777, named Flight AI-187, took off from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport of Delhi at 2:56 am on June 14 but abruptly lost altitude shortly after take off. The fall triggered stall and ground proximity warnings, including repeated “Don’t sink” alerts, TOI reported, based on a statement by an Air India spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that upon receiving the pilot’s report, the matter was disclosed to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in accordance with regulations. Later, upon receipt of data from the aircraft's recorders, further investigation was initiated, the person said.

According to TOI, DGCA has launched a detailed probe into the incident and summoned Air India’s Head of Safety, demanding an explanation.

The London-bound Air India Boeing Dreamliner 787-8, with 242 passengers and crew on board, had crashed moments after take-off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport on June 12 afternoon. The crash killed all those on board, except a British national, and some others on the ground, killing a total of 270 people.

On June 23, the DGCI conducted a detailed audit at Air India's main base in Gurugram that will cover operations, flight scheduling, rostering and various other areas, a source told news agency PTI.

A safety audit of Air India’s fleet by the agency has highlighted repeated maintenance lapses and poor defect rectification.
