Hyderabad: Five individuals have been arrested in Telangana’s Sangareddy district for tying an Anganwadi teacher to a tree over alleged financial wrongdoing by her husband, police said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in Rasole village, Kangti mandal, when villagers allegedly humiliated Vasanta Kumari by tying her to a tree. Her husband, Prabhakar, is accused of defrauding several villagers in Ramaragidda village through a finance company called "HBM Finance" and then fleeing.

Angered by the alleged cheating, villagers went to Rasole while Vasanta Kumari was on duty at the Anganwadi centre, restrained her, and tied her to a tree. She was later released after intervention by local village elders. Following the incident, Vasanta Kumari filed a complaint, prompting the police to launch an investigation, which led to the arrest of five suspects.

In a separate development, two Telangana and Andhra Pradesh MLAs fell victim to cyber frauds.

Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Jangaon constituency, lost Rs 1 lakh to fraudsters posing under the "Vikasit Bharat" scheme. The accused allegedly promised Rs 10 lakh loans on submission of an eligibility list and collected Rs 1 lakh as processing fees, which the MLA paid via PhonePe. Suspicious of further demands for money, he lodged a complaint with Jubilee Hills Police Station in Hyderabad.

Last month, Andhra Pradesh MLA Chirri Balaraju of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), representing Polavaram, was defrauded of Rs 12 lakh through a WhatsApp link purportedly from the Road Transport Authority (RTA). The amount was reportedly debited from his bank account after clicking the link. He filed a complaint at Jeelugumilli Police Station, and the police are investigating to trace the perpetrators and recover the funds.
