New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence on Monday, presenting him with a renowned handmade shawl from the Chamoli region.

This meeting comes as the Uttarakhand government finalizes its preparations for the much-anticipated rollout of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state this month. CM Dhami has consistently emphasized that ‘Devbhoomi’ will implement the UCC in the new year, with sources suggesting that the law could be rolled out on Makar Sankranti (January 14) or Republic Day (January 26).

Dhami’s meeting with PM Modi further fuels speculation about the imminent launch of the UCC, with reports indicating that the Chief Minister sought the Prime Minister's blessings before the final rollout.

On his social media platform X, CM Dhami shared insights from the meeting, highlighting the guidance he received from PM Modi on various matters. He wrote, “I met the great visionary who plays the role of a yagnik in the great yagya of the nation’s progress, making the entire country proud on the global stage. I received guidance on various subjects. On this occasion, I also presented him with a famous handmade shawl from the Malari (Chamoli) region and a replica of Narayan Ashram in Pithoragarh.”

The Uttarakhand government has been actively preparing for the UCC’s smooth implementation, with training programs for officials set to continue until January 20. Specialized mobile applications and assistance centers have been established to aid in the execution of UCC procedures. Recently, the Uttarakhand Home Secretary led a review meeting attended by District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates to ensure the readiness for UCC's rollout.

The BJP-ruled hill state is set to become the first state to implement the UCC, which mandates a uniform law for various matters like marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance and will be applicable to all the residents irrespective of their religion, caste and community.
