Sambhal: The district administration on Thursday carried out a demolition drive in Bichhauli village, removing an ‘Imambara’ and an ‘Eidgah’ allegedly constructed on government land, officials said.

The action was led by the Revenue Department, with police personnel deployed at the site to maintain law and order, as authorities cleared what they described as encroachments on public land.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Patel stated that plot numbers 1240 and 1242 are officially classified as public utility land, designated for purposes such as manure pits and grazing grounds, where any form of construction is prohibited.

She said proceedings were initiated in the tehsildar’s court under the relevant legal provisions, and eviction orders were issued after due hearing. “Following the orders, the revenue and police teams have taken action to remove the encroachment,” Patel added.

Sambhal has remained in focus in recent months over administrative crackdowns on alleged encroachments and disputes involving land use and religious structures.

Officials intensified enforcement measures after the November 2024 violence linked to a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in the Kot Garvi area.
