Uttarakhand mosque construction halted amid row over 250-ft minarets
text_fieldsHaridwar: The construction of a mosque in Uttarakhand’s Laksar region, Haridwar district, has been temporarily halted due to concerns regarding compliance with building height regulations.
Local authorities flagged the issue earlier this week, citing that the mosque’s minarets were approximately 250 feet tall, allegedly exceeding permissible construction limits. The matter was brought to attention following objections raised by local Hindu groups over the height of the structure.
Police officials told the media that the construction has not been permanently stopped but has been voluntarily paused by mosque representatives until the required permissions are secured. Officials have asked the mosque authorities to resubmit the necessary paperwork to move forward.
This incident comes amid a broader drive by the BJP-led Uttarakhand government, which has initiated action to remove over 500 allegedly “illegal mazars” across the state.
