‘Why not give Sindoor to your Mrs?’Mamata hits out at PM Modi

New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said PM Modi was playing ‘political holi’ in the name of Sindoor Operation.
Mamata Banerjee was responding to PM Modi’s stump speech to a rally in Alipurduar where he accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of corruption, The Wire reported.
PM Modi’s visit gains importance as it heralds West Bengal assembly elections next year with the BJP looking forward to highlight Operation Sindoor in the campaign.
Mamata Banerjee alleged that PM Modi was using India’s military strikes on Pakistan for political gains.
Calling sindoor (vermilion) as a mark of respect for women alongside urging PM Modi to respect woman, she asked why he was not giving sindoor to his wife first.
West Bengal chief minister also called out Bengal BJP chief and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar after he promised Operation Sindoor-like Operation West Bengal’.
‘Operation Sindoor name was given with a political goal. But I won’t say anything about this. When all opposition leaders are shouting hoarse for the country abroad, at that time the prime minister has come to play political holi – this does not behove the prime minister,’ Banerjee told a press conference.
Saying that she did not have any comments on Operation Sindoor, Mamata said ‘They take sindoor from their husbands. PM Modi is not the husband of anybody; why aren’t you giving sindoor to your Mrs first? I am sorry to say I should not go into all these matters, but you compel us in the name of Operation Sindoor and Operation Bengal to open our mouths. Am I clear?’
It all began when Sukanta Majumdar, welcoming PM Modi to the rally, said ‘Pakistan had wiped the vermilion off the heads of our mothers and sisters. Narendra Modi has taken revenge for that. In front of me, thousands of BJP workers will become Modiji’s soldiers in the coming days, like Operation Sindoor and will carry out ‘Operation West Bengal’ and throw the Trinamool overthrow into the waters of the Bay of Bengal.’
