New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking contempt of court action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Bar and Bench reported.

The action was sought for his remarks against the top court and the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna a few days ago.

Back then, Dubey told news agency ANI, after the CJI-led bench mooted a stay on Waqf (Amendment) Act, that CJI Khanna was to be blamed for ‘all civil wars in the country’.

Petitioner Vishal Tiwari argued that the dignity of the court has to be protected pointing out that ‘Earlier, court took cognisance in Delhi judicial services case’.

However, CJI Khanna made it clear that the court will be passing a short order, saying ‘We will give some reasons. We will not be entertaining it but we will give a short order’.

The petitioner emphasized that the interview was replete with derogatory remarks towards the judiciary and the Supreme Court amounting to ‘Offence punishable under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also under Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Acts, 1971’.

The Supreme Court in a verdict gave three-month period for the President and Governors to decide on pending bills.

The landmark verdict faced criticism from several leaders including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Mr Dubey, who is an MP from Godda, Jharkhand.

Responding to the verdict, Dubey reportedly asked ‘Which law says that the President has to take a decision within three months?’ alongside alleging that the Supreme Court was going beyond its limits.

‘If one has to go to the Supreme Court for everything, then Parliament and State Assembly should be shut,’ the BJP MP was quoted as saying.
