Kollam: Two teenage athletes were found dead on Thursday at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala’s Kollam district.

The deceased, aged 18 and 16, hailed from Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram districts, respectively. Police said one of them was an athletics trainee studying in Class 12, while the other was a kabaddi player and a Class 10 student.

Their bodies were found in a hostel room in the morning after they failed to report for their routine coaching sessions. Police said the room was locked from the inside when authorities were alerted and officers reached the spot.

Investigators said the two athletes were staying in separate rooms but had spent Wednesday night together in the room allotted to one of them. Both were reportedly seen by other hostel inmates early on Thursday morning.

The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, and no suicide note was recovered from the room, police officials said. Statements will be recorded from fellow sportspersons at the hostel, their trainers, and relatives, an official told PTI.

The bodies will be handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations, police added.
