Ernakulam: Tamil Nadu Police arrested actress Minu Muneer on Wednesday in a case where she allegedly attempted to traffic a young woman into a sex racket, according to reports. Muneer is known for her series of serious sexual abuse allegations against frontline Malayalam actors, movie makers, technicians and others. She was arrested in Ernakulam district's Aluva in Kerala. She, allegedly, attempted to hand over a girl, who is her relative, to the sex mafia, and was taken to Chennai on Thursday, The Week reported.
Reports claim that Muneer convinced the girl that she would help her get into the film industry if she accompanied her to Tamil Nadu, but her actual intention was to hand the girl over to the mafia.
Manorama Online reported that the incident related to the case happened in 2014, according to the investigation team in the case.
Following the Hema Committee report, Kerala witnessed multiple individuals surfacing with sexual abuse cases against people associated with the Malayalam film industry. Among the complainants were Minu Muneer, who levelled severe allegations against Malayalam mainstream actors like Jayasurya, Balachandra Menon, Mukesh, Edavela Babu, and Maniyanpilla Raju. She alleged that a particular actor in the industry had demanded "compromises" in order for her to gain membership in the actors' organisation, AMMA- Association of Malayalam Movie Artists.
Last June, Minu Muneer was arrested for defamation by actor and director Balachandra Menon. Minu is accused of defaming the filmmaker on social media, and she was arrested by Kochi Infopark Cyber Police before being released on bail. Earlier, a court had concluded the proceedings in the case related to the complaint filed by the actress against Balachandra Menon, and it had issued her a notice. The police had submitted a final report on the case stating that there was no evidence for the allegations against Balachandra Menon.
