Hate speech against Muslims: Kerala govt moves against BJP leader
text_fieldsKochi: In the case of hate speech Kerala BJP leader PC George, the Kerala government approached the Kerala High Court demanding cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to the leader, known for his controversial and seriously problematic statements against Muslims.
The High Court has issued a notice to George on the Kerala government's application.
George was out on bail on the condition that he should not make similar offences or provocative statements, but he flouted the bail conditions by delivering more hate speech against Muslims during a channel debate.
He called Muslims terrorists and is booked under various sections of BNS in a fresh FIR, Live Law reported.
However, the BJP leader claimed that he did not make the statements with the intention of promoting ill will against Muslims, and he was provoked by the co-panellist in the TV debate.
In the 2025 FIR, the High Court has already denied him anticipatory bail, while the state administration is requesting the High Court to cancel his anticipatory bail in a 2022 FIR, charging him with hate speech against Muslims.
The 2022 FIR, lodged at the Palarivattom Police Station in Kerala’s Ernakulam, had charged him with Sections 153A [Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, etc.] and 295A [Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class] of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the 2025 FIR is registered at the Erattupettah Police Station under corresponding provisions of BNS— Section 196(1)(a) and Section 299 and under Section 12(O) of the Kerala Police Act.
George, who is known for his controversial communal and political statements as well as actions, was arrested on February 24 after he surrendered before Erattupetta court. He was remanded for 14 days by the court.
