New Delhi: Kerala education minister V. Sivankutty called out the higher education conference organized by RSS happening in Kochi saying that some organizations are trying to distort education policies according to their interests, The Wire reported.

Calling for putting up strong resistance against ‘attempts to impose a majoritarian view on India’s education sector,’ he said the Kerala government is against the saffronisation of education under the garb of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The conference ‘Gyan Sabha’ taking place in Kochi has in attendance ‘300 top educationists, including vice-chancellors, academicians and education ministers from states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Puducherry’.

Organised by the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, a body linked to the RSS, the gathering called national education conference, being held from July 25 to 28 , will focus on the theme ‘education for a developed India’.

Calling out the conference, Shivankutty said that the efforts to bring the education under an particular ideology is not acceptable, adding that education should be secular and accessible for all.

‘However, it is worrying that some organisations are trying to distort education policies according to their interests,’ the minister said, pointing out that participation of vice-chancellors of five universities in the event ‘very much worrying’.

Stating that universities should be independent and impartial, he said the misuse of them for political interests would lead to far-reaching consequences.

The minister urged people to resist and defeat saffronisation bids, upholding the secular nature of the education sector.
