The Kerala government today released a notification banning online rummy in the state by amending Kerala Gaming Act. The card game rummy, which involves money, was already banned in the state.

Pauly Vadakkan, a native of Thrissur, had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the high court asking for a ban on online rummy. The state government had informed the court that a notification would be published in two weeks to regulate the game. The court also sent notices to Virat Kohli, Tamannaah and Aju Varghese, the game ambassadors named in the PIL. A youth had committed suicide out of debt from playing the game in the state.
