Kochi: Kochi police have registered a case for deliberately giving provocation with intent to cause a riot against Congress' state chief K Sudharakaran for his allegedly deplorable remarks aiming at the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

A case under section 153 has been charged on Sudhakaran over a complaint from a CPI(M) worker.

The Congress' Kerala chief was there in Thrikkakara as part of an election campaign, where a by-election has been scheduled to be held on May 31. It was his "he was wandering like an unchained dog" targeting the CM that led the CPM worker to file a complaint against him.

Thrikkakara constituency has been left vacant after the death of Congress MLA PT Joseph. Both the ruling CPM and the Congress are fighting for the seat as a matter of prestige.

When the statement was viewed as reprehensible, Sudhakaran clarified that it was just a parable to point out the impropriety of spending the public money by a Chief Minister for an election campaign when the state is facing an acute financial crisis.
