Malappuram vlogger held for 'rape' on false promise of marriage, blackmail

Malappuram : A vlogger was arrested in Bengaluru on Saturday for allegedly raping a young woman he met on social media by deceiving her with a false promise of marriage, police said.
The accused, identified as Junaid, a resident of Vazhikadavu, had reportedly been sexually exploiting the woman for nearly two years at various hotels in Malappuram and surrounding areas. According to police, he also took nude photos of the victim and used them to threaten her.
After the woman filed a complaint, Malappuram police registered a case and launched an investigation. Junaid, who was attempting to flee abroad to evade arrest, was tracked down and apprehended near Bengaluru Airport in the early hours of Saturday by a team led by Malappuram Inspector P Vishnu.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court after completing legal formalities, police added.
