Thiruvananthapuram airport gears up from smooth landings
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Flights landing at the Thiruvananthapuram airport will now be able to experience smoother landing during turbulent weather, with the commissioning of an advanced Category-1 Approach Lighting System (ALS) on the Runway 32.
"The focus is on having an all-weather airport. Even during the flood in 2018, we were able to land flights here. However, there was a technical issue. Now, it will turn into one of the finest runways," said an official at the airport, according to the New Indian Express.
Tactically placed lights in an approach lighting system extend outwards. It serves as a guide for pilots and plays a crucial role, especially in bad weather. An official said that even when visibility is below 550 meters, the new ALS allows pilots to land safely. This ensures that flights are not redirected to other airports due to poor visibility.
