New Delhi: The government on Tuesday announced the launch of specialised skill courses on tea sommeliers and tea tasting, approved by the National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal inaugurated the courses, stating that they are designed to skill the youth and promote tea literacy. The programmes, developed by Tea Board India, are set to be conducted at the Darjeeling Tea Research and Development Centre in Kurseong.

The initiative includes two courses: Tea Sommeliers (60 hours), which covers professional tea tasting techniques and the creation of innovative tea blends, and Fundamentals of Tea Tasting (210 hours). The courses aim to enhance expertise in the tea sector and open new opportunities for skilled professionals.
