New Delhi: The Delhi government has banned the sale, purchase, and distribution of Coldrif cough syrup after it was found to be “not of standard quality” and contaminated with a toxic chemical, according to an official order issued on Friday.

The order stated that Coldrif Syrup, containing Paracetamol, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate, was manufactured in May 2025 by Sresan Pharmaceutical Manufacturer based in Tamil Nadu. Laboratory analysis revealed that the syrup was adulterated with Diethylene Glycol (46.28% w/v), a highly toxic compound known to cause serious harm to human health.

In light of the findings, the Delhi government has directed all stakeholders to immediately halt the sale, purchase, and distribution of the affected batch. The public has also been strongly advised not to consume the product due to its potential health hazards.

Authorities have called for the strict enforcement of the ban and the wide dissemination of the public advisory in the interest of public safety.
