Nasal vaccine is recommended as the first booster: Covid task force chief

New Delhi: The chief of India’s vaccine task force said that the country’s nasal vaccine for Covid -19 is meant for those who have not yet taken any precaution dose.
Dr NK Arora told NDTV that the nasal vaccine, iNCOVACC, is not meant for those who have taken booster dose either.
NK Arora, who is the Chairman of the Covid Working Group of NTAGI or National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, reportedly said that nasal vaccine is recommended as the first booster.
NTAGI works on introduction of new vaccines and strengthening the universal immunisation programme, according to the report.
Dr Arora said that repeated immunisation with a particular type of antigen would lead to “antigen sink’, where the body will stop responding or respond poorly.
This is the reason, according to him, mRNA vaccines are given with a gape six months and later it was given at the gape of three months, and added that a fourth dose is of no value.
As for the recipient’s age group for nasal vaccine, he said that anybody above the age of 18 years can take it, which involves four drops in each nostril.
He was quoted as saying that the vaccine is extremely safe and has very little adverse events except some nasal blockage for a short while.
Like in the case of all vaccines, people should wait for 15 to 30 minutes after the vaccine is administered to observe any reaction.
