Shocking viral video shows unsafe surgery by Ayurvedic ‘doctor’ in Bihar
text_fieldsBihar: A disturbing video showing an Ayurvedic practitioner allegedly performing a caesarean section under grossly unhygienic and unsafe conditions has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The practitioner, identified as Kanchan Kumari, was reportedly carrying out the procedure in a makeshift operating space with no adherence to basic medical protocols.
The viral video, believed to have been filmed in Siwan, Bihar, was captured by a relative of Kumari and surfaced on social media platform X. In the footage, Kumari is seen conducting the surgery without wearing standard surgical gear such as a mask, gloves, or cap. The setting appears to be a poorly lit, cramped room, lacking proper sterilisation and infection control measures.
Prominent X handle ‘THE SKIN DOCTOR’ shared the video, condemning the scene: “A ‘gynaecologist’ who can’t even spell the word correctly is performing a C-section in what looks like a storage room, with zero infection control.” The post criticised not only the practitioner’s method but also the apparent absence of an anaesthetist or trained surgical staff.
“She is not wearing a mask or surgical cap. The room is overcrowded with people in regular clothes, including the patient’s relatives, who are casually standing around and watching the procedure like it’s a live show. Probably no anaesthetist either,” the post added.
Alongside the video, the handle also shared a screenshot of Kumari’s Instagram profile, where she claims to be a “gynecologist and obstetrics.” The bio has intensified concerns over her qualifications and the legitimacy of her medical practice.
In the video, a male voice can be heard saying in Hindi, “She is my aunt Kanchan Kumari and is performing a C-section. Mothers necessarily give birth to boys when she performs the procedure,” a comment that drew additional criticism for its unscientific and superstitious undertones.
Observers were quick to point out the complete absence of sterilised instruments and any professional oversight. Social media users expressed shock and anger, calling for urgent legal and medical action. “Why is she still practising? She must be in jail for harming patients and the unborn child,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Absolutely shocking!! The unhygienic atmosphere, the inefficiency, and that evil laughter.”
Despite the public uproar, the authenticity of the video and the practitioner's medical credentials have yet to be independently verified. Authorities have not issued an official statement at the time of this report.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the regulation of healthcare practices in rural India and the urgent need for stricter enforcement to prevent unqualified individuals from endangering lives.
