Israel's security cabinet has approved extending the compulsory military service for men from 32 months to 36 months.

According to a report by Ynet on Friday, this new rule will be in effect for the next eight years following a late Thursday meeting of the security cabinet.

The measure is expected to be presented for a vote at a full cabinet meeting on Sunday. Military leaders in Israel have emphasized the need for increased manpower to sustain ongoing conflicts with the Hamas group in Gaza and confrontations with the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

In addition to this extension, Israel plans to issue draft notices to thousands of ultra-Orthodox seminary students who were previously exempt from military service.
