Kuwait to impose a partial curfew for a month amidst a record surge in Covid cases in the state. The Kuwaiti cabinet on Thursday decided to impose a partial curfew starting next Sunday, local media reported.

The partial lockdown will be imposed from 5 PM to 5 AM from March 7 and is expected to be lifted before Ramadan, beginning on April 13 or 14.

According to local media, the cabinet had rejected the health committee's proposals for a partial curfew in the country last month which was replaced with a series of new coronavirus restrictions to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The gulf state extended its entry ban on non-Kuwaitis and suspended all social gatherings, sports events and also ordered mandatory closing of commercial outlets from 8 PM to 5 AM.

Kuwait set a new daily record with 1,716 COVID cases on Thursday, making total cases to 196,497, while the death toll rose to 1,105 with eight new deaths.
