Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik arrived in Moscow on Monday evening, commencing a two-day state visit to the Russian Federation at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.

Upon arrival at Vnukovo Airport, Sultan Haitham was received by Maxim Reshetnikov, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, alongside senior Russian officials and members of the Omani Embassy in Moscow. An official reception was held at the airport, where His Majesty inspected the Guard of Honor before both the Omani Royal Anthem and the Russian National Anthem were played.

As part of his engagements in the Russian capital, Sultan Haitham visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Alexander Garden, adjacent to the Kremlin, paying respects in a symbolic gesture of remembrance and diplomacy.

An official welcoming ceremony will take place on Tuesday at the Kremlin, during which Sultan Haitham will meet President Putin. The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral discussions covering regional developments, trade cooperation and the enhancement of strategic relations between the two nations.

Earlier on Monday, His Majesty departed from Muscat, where he was seen off at the Royal Airport by senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations HH Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, along with heads of the State Council, Shura Council, judiciary, various ministries and senior military commanders.
