Riyadh: Locally-grown apricots from the Kargil district in Ladakh, India, have been introduced in Saudi Arabia for the first time under the Government of India’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. The launch took place at Lulu Hypermarket in Riyadh as part of the India Utsav celebrations marking India’s 79th Independence Day.

Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, inaugurated the product, noting the significance of bringing fresh apricots from one of India’s northernmost regions to Saudi consumers. He commended the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Lulu Hypermarket for their role in making the initiative possible, adding that the Indian government remains committed to supporting similar collaborations.

The event also featured the launch of several new Indian products at Lulu Hypermarket. It drew a large gathering of Saudi nationals and expatriates, reflecting the growing popularity of Indian produce and cultural events in the Kingdom.
