Authorities have begun accepting online applications for Itikaf at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Itikaf is an Islamic practice of seclusion in a mosque during the last 10 days of Ramadan, where worshippers dedicate themselves to prayer and spiritual reflection during what is considered the holiest nights of the year.

The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has urged applicants to select a mosque, submit their application, watch an awareness video to understand the service and review the necessary conditions for participation. The period of seclusion will begin on Ramadan 20 and conclude with the Isha prayer on the night before Eid Al-Fitr.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and either a Saudi citizen or a valid residency permit holder. Itikaf permits are free and registration can be completed online at eserv.wmn.gov.sa.
