Saudi Arabia to host film criticism conference across three cities
text_fieldsThe Saudi Film Commission has announced the launch of the third annual Film Criticism Conference, to be held under the theme “Cinema: the Art of Place".
This year’s event will take place across three cultural hubs, Asir in August, Qatif in October and Riyadh in November, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The conference aims to create a space for dialogue among critics, researchers, filmmakers and new Saudi voices. It goes beyond standard film events by focusing on cinema as a reflection of place and identity.
The program includes panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and dedicated art exhibitions. It will explore how cinema uses place as a symbol, a reflection of reality or an entry into imagination, offering a mix of critical and philosophical views.
The event also aims to support the development of film culture in the Kingdom and the wider region. Last year’s edition drew more than 10,000 visitors from over 30 countries and included contributions from more than 35 local and international organizations. Prominent directors, critics and researchers also took part.
