Abu Dhabi Police offer courses to remove black points at ADIHEX

Motorists in the UAE have a chance to reduce black points from their driving licenses by enrolling in traffic awareness courses held during the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), running until September 7.

The initiative, announced by Abu Dhabi Police, allows drivers with fewer than 24 black points to attend a Dh800 awareness program at Hall 12 of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Successful participants can wipe off up to eight black points from their driving record.

Drivers who have accumulated 24 points, risking license revocation, can also participate in separate courses after paying a Dh2,400 fee, as part of rehabilitation.

This move is part of the Police’s broader push to raise road safety standards through education and behavioral reform, targeting frequent traffic violators.

Last month, a separate campaign by the Federal Traffic Council encouraged safe driving on August 25, the UAE’s busy “Back-to-School” day. Drivers who maintained a clean record on that day will have four black points deducted by September 15.

Black points are penalties assigned for serious traffic violations in the UAE. Accumulating 24 points within a year leads to automatic license suspension, with the duration depending on the nature of the infractions. Other consequences may include fines, vehicle impoundment and daily storage fees of Dh100 if a car is seized.

There are 143 federal traffic rules that carry different levels of penalties based on severity, from speeding and reckless driving to using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

Abu Dhabi Police’s point-reduction program reflects a strategic shift from punishment to proactive education, encouraging long-term behavioral change. By linking awareness sessions with immediate relief from penalties, authorities aim to reduce accident rates and promote compliance with the UAE’s traffic laws.

Motorists looking to benefit from the initiative must register before ADIHEX concludes on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Accident-Free Day deductions will be automatically processed for eligible drivers by mid-September.
