Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again secured its position as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic, according to the 2024 preliminary rankings released by Airports Council International (ACI) World.

Marking its eleventh consecutive year at the top, DXB continues to dominate global air traffic, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a leading hub for tourism, commerce and connectivity. The airport’s sustained performance places it just behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the overall rankings, with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport occupying the third spot.

The ACI report reveals that global passenger traffic reached nearly 9.5 billion in 2024, a 9% increase from 2023 and 3.8% higher than pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. The top 10 busiest airports worldwide, which handled approximately 855 million passengers, experienced an 8.8% rise year-on-year and an 8.4% increase from 2019 levels.

Commenting on the achievement, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said that DXB’s milestone represents more than statistical success.

“This accomplishment highlights Dubai’s standing as a premier global destination for tourism, trade, business and residency,” he said.

In addition to passenger traffic, the ACI report noted a surge in air cargo volumes, with a global increase of 8.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Total cargo throughput surpassed 124 million metric tonnes, reflecting growing demand and economic resilience.

ACI World Director-General Justin Erbacci said, “Amid global challenges, the resilience of the world’s busiest airports shines. These hubs are vital arteries of trade, commerce and connectivity”.
