Dubai Police recover diamond-filled bag mistakenly taken to Bangladesh by passenger
text_fieldsDubai Police have successfully recovered and returned a jewellery bag containing diamond pieces worth Dh1.1 million that had been mistakenly taken by a passenger to Bangladesh.
The incident began when a Dubai-based jeweller travelled to a GCC country for a jewellery exhibition carrying four bags of precious diamonds. Upon arrival, he discovered that one of the bags in his possession did not belong to him. Realising the severity of the situation, he immediately returned to the UAE and filed a report with the General Department of Airport Security.
A special investigation team found that a Bangladeshi traveller had inadvertently taken the jeweller’s bag during security checks, mistaking it for his own due to its similarity. The man had flown to Bangladesh with the bag, while the jeweller had unknowingly picked up the traveller’s identical-looking bag.
Dubai Police promptly coordinated with the UAE Embassy in Dhaka and Bangladeshi authorities to track down the missing bag. It was eventually located and returned safely to its owner in the UAE.
The jeweller expressed gratitude to Dubai Police for their swift action and professionalism.
“I truly don’t know how to find the words to express my appreciation. Your remarkable attention to detail and sincere commitment to making people happy are beyond commendable”, he said.
Dubai Police extended gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh, His Excellency Abdulla Ali Abdulla Al Hamoudi and his team for their critical role in facilitating the recovery. They also commended the collaboration with Bangladeshi authorities, noting that international partnerships are key to restoring rights and ensuring safety for citizens, residents and visitors.
