India tightens passport photo rules for applicants in UAE
text_fieldsIndian nationals in the UAE applying for a new passport or renewal must submit ICAO-compliant photographs from September 1, 2025, following a directive from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The Indian Consulate in Dubai says applications will be accepted only with photos that meet the aviation body’s biometric standards.
The update moves applicants toward digital, high-resolution uploads via the Passport Seva system. Authorities report most people will need to provide fresh photos to meet the new criteria. Non-compliant submissions can delay processing.
What changes for applicants
Format: Colour digital photo upload (printed copies may be requested only where applicable).
Size: 630 × 810 pixels for digital images (or 2×2 inch if printed).
Background: Plain white only.
Head position: Face should occupy 80–85% of the frame; both edges visible.
Expression & eyes: Neutral expression, eyes open, mouth closed.
Clarity: No shadows, glare, red-eye, or digital edits; natural skin tones.
Officials advise applicants to check the MEA/Passport Seva notice and the Dubai consulate’s guidance before booking appointments to avoid rejections or delays
