Killing of Charlie Kirk, a white supremacist who wished the extinction of Gazans

Charlie Kirk had called for public executions in the USA. Be careful what you wish for: you may get it. Kirk was shot dead while debating a student in front of a live audience at a college in Utah. Charles Kirk averred that gun rights are worth some gun deaths. He became one of those gun deaths. Very few decent people will mourn this hatred-expectorating dimwit.

The 31-year-old Kirk was well known in the United States and overseas for his white nationalist and Christian fundamentalist opinions. He was a vociferous advocate for genocide against the people of Gaza.

Mr Kirk was always spouting saloon-bar prejudices. His racist and sexist views were shouted with fervour and glee. It seems that he was sincere.

Kirk’s credo was a checklist of far-right and religiously maniacal beliefs. Here is what he believed:

  1. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ensured racial equality, was a terrible mistake.
  2. The 1950s were better than now for African Americans, even though the Ku Klux Klan was murdering hundreds of people a year back then.
  3. Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr, who laid down his life for racial justice, was a bad person.
  4. Women should go to university only if their aim is to meet a husband.
  5. Jews are financing Marxism and anti-white beliefs in the United States.
  6. Palestine is not a country and should be called Judea and Samaria.
  7. The murder of 70,000 Palestinians and Israel’s deliberate starvation of Gaza is not genocide, despite the UN and countless Israeli Jewish genocide scholars attesting that it is.
  8. Climate change is not happening, is not man-made, and is not injurious.
  9. Black pilots are usually not good enough to fly planes.
  10. Black women who have graduated from Harvard do not have the brain power to be judges.
  11. Black Lives Matter is an evil organisation for opposing the murder of unarmed black people by the police.
  12. God made the world in six days, and evolution is bogus.
  13. Crimea legally belongs to Russia, Zelensky is a dictator, and the United States should cut off all aid to Ukraine.
  14. Taylor Swift must abandon the name she has made for herself in her career and use her married name, or else she does not love her husband.

Kirk was born in 1993 into a white Christian middle-class family in Chicago. He attended a college nobody has ever heard of and dropped out after a semester. In his arrogance, he said he was proud to be uneducated. He ignorantly said that third-level education is all about indoctrination. He thought world experts had nothing to teach him.

Mr Kirk’s dismissal of tertiary education as being full of Maoist madrassas is not as daft as it may at first seem. A high majority of academics are leftists. The political centre in American academe is much farther to the left than that of Americans generally. This is a phenomenon witnessed across the world.

Charlie Kirk amplified the anti-intellectualism that was already prevalent in the Republican Party. It has become anti-pedagogical. Yet his party is in favour of miseducation in charter schools where children are brainwashed into believing anti-scientific nonsense.

Kirk was an irrationalist inasmuch as he rejected the proven fact of evolution. This was carried over into other areas. His obstinacy and wilful blindness were such that he denied the undeniable in Gaza. As a person of faith, the belief in blatant falsehood was virtuous.

After Kirk failed at education, he went straight into being a social media influencer. There is no doubt he was media-savvy and enormously successful in his chosen sphere. Kirk made millions by monetising hate. He constantly inveighed against Muslims. He said that Muslims lived in the 1300s. In fact, Kirk was the mediaevalist. He said that Islam ‘is a sword that the left uses to slit the throat of America.’ It was typical of his violent imagery. He also claimed that Islam is incompatible with Western civilisation, despite there being millions of Muslim citizens of the USA and other Western countries.

As a narrow-minded and bigoted man, Kirk hated the other. He was constantly scapegoating marginal groups. His hate speech was consequential for beleaguered minorities.

The Kirk family was averagely religious. Kirk spurned liberal Christianity. He became an antediluvian religious reactionary.

Transgender people were a target of Kirk’s scorn. This is one of the few issues on which he was sane. A man calling himself a woman does not make that man a woman or vice versa. Transgenderism is a form of gender blackface. If a white person paints his face black, that does not mean that he is black, nor should anyone accept him as black. There can be a difference between appearance and reality.

Touring college campuses, he would tell students to ‘prove me wrong’ and engage in impromptu debates. He was well-versed and gave a good account of himself. After all, this was his full-time job. Charlie Kirk was a glib and gifted debater, but he could not hold his own when he met a graduate. That is why he usually debated undergraduates.

It is not true that Kirk was a free-speech warrior, as he pretended. He tried to get liberal or left-leaning academics fired from conservative colleges. He also tried to get his political opponents off the school and library boards. He was part of right-wing cancel culture.

Turning Point USA was founded by Kirk. It became a Trump ginger group. He got to meet his idol, Donald J Trump.

In 2020, Kirk was one of those who tirelessly disseminated the total lie that Trump won the election. Donald J Trump lost over 60 court cases about this. Many of them were adjudicated by Trump-appointed judges.

Charlie Kirk did more to win over youths to the cause of Donald J Trump than perhaps anyone else. Disaffected white Christian boys found him appealing.

President Trump was an odd idol for Kirk. Kirk was all about family values. Trump was accused of sex crimes by 20 women, all of whom are more credible because they revealed their identities and thereby opened themselves up to hate mail and death threats from Trumpites. A court found Trump had sexually abused E Jean Carroll. These are the ‘family values’ that Kirk held dear.

Kirk denounced violent crime. Yet Donald Trump incited violent crime at his rallies since 2016, and people were severely beaten up on his orders. Trump incited the January 6 riots that killed six people and then pardoned those imprisoned for violent crime. Charlie Kirk still took the side of Trump.

The only issue on which Charlie Kirk was admirable was that he defended children in utero. His absolutist position that the unborn must be saved unless it is the only way to save the mother is laudable.

Charles Kirk never appeared to challenge himself. He only believed what was comfortable. In his cosy mindset, the best people in the world were straight white American Christian males. On the contrary, Muslims were mindlessly violent and had never suffered injustice at the hands of the USA or Israel.

The slaying of Charlie Kirk will be exploited by the Republican Party. They will say leftists are terrorists. It will be used to excuse the criminalisation of free speech. This ill becomes those who pose as proponents of the First Amendment.

It is the Republicans who engage in incendiary rhetoric. Republicans are gun nuts, and several Republican candidates have even published video adverts of themselves shooting things or exploding things as part of their war against their political opponents. There are those who take this a step further and shoot people.

Charlie was imbecilic, conceited, over-opinionated, ultracrepidarian, unlettered, hypocritical, cruel, fraudulent, malevolent, racist, sexist, homophobic, reactionary, rebarbative, Machiavellian, chauvinistic and ghastly. He shall not be missed.

Kirk leaves behind a widow and two children.
