Media reports from Doha the other day stated that Hamas had accepted the US proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of ten hostages. US President Donald Trump has assured that the terms of the agreement will be honoured, and accordingly, the Israeli military will withdraw from Gaza, as revealed by Al Jazeera. The bilateral agreement includes provisions for the unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. every day. However, Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Witkoff, has denied reports that Hamas confirmed his proposal. 'Completely unacceptable' was Witkoff's response to Reuters. According to a report from Washington citing a UN official, the US is only considering a temporary ceasefire agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has outright rejected any proposal for a permanent ceasefire and has declared that the war against Palestinian groups will continue until complete victory. His 'complete victory' includes the release of all Israeli hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, the expulsion of military and political leaders, and ultimately, the implementation of Trump's plan in Gaza.
Wasting no time after taking office, Trump gained global attention by visiting Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, engaging in discussions with their leaders, participating in the Riyadh summit, and deliberately excluding Israel from his itinerary. Arab leaders made it clear to Trump that until the war in Gaza ceases, humanitarian aid resumes, and Palestinian statehood is granted, a peace treaty with Israel or normalisation of relations with it would not be possible. As a goodwill gesture, Hamas released an American hostage. However, the US president refrained from providing any concrete or unequivocal assurances. Meanwhile, the Zionist state continues its relentless and brutal operations to dehumanise Gaza. According to official figures, 53,977 innocent people, including women and children, have been killed by Israeli forces, while 122,966 have been injured. Add to it those buried under the rubble of bombed homes, schools, hospitals, and markets, the number of casualties surpasses 150,000. Around 70,000 children are on the brink of death due to starvation. The latest harrowing image shows an Israeli attack killing nine out of ten children of a female doctor treating the wounded. According to FAO estimates, only five per cent of Gaza’s farmland remains cultivable. The organisation also highlights that 77.8 per cent of the land is inaccessible to farmers. Additionally, 82.5 per cent of water sources are unusable. Social media is flooded with heartbreaking images of infants dying inch by inch due to the lack of drinking water, food, and medicine.
The civilised world stands paralysed in the face of this unprecedented Zionist brutality in human history. Even countries like Canada, Britain, and Germany, which have long stood alongside the US as Israel’s protectors, are beginning to feel that it is time to put an end to this carnage. These nations have announced their decision to sever economic ties with Israel. Meanwhile, Trump, who visited key Arab League and OIC member states—of which Palestine is also a member—for trade agreements and participated in a warm summit as stated here, celebrating diplomatic victories, is busy in his own country persecuting, exiling, or imprisoning those who have declared moral support for Palestine. Even though Hamas has agreed to deliver humanitarian aid into Gaza under UN supervision, the US leader remains unwilling to implement it. There is every reason to suspect that the US-Israel plan is not just about targeting Palestinian resistance groups but about erasing an entire people from history. If the global response is either tacit approval or passive indifference to this reprehensible act, then the only recourse left is to pray for the intervention of just and merciful Almighty.
