Kyle walker ends 8-yr Man City spell, joins Burnley in £5 million deal
text_fieldsBurnley: England right-back Kyle Walker has ended his eight-year spell with Manchester City by signing with Burnley in a deal reportedly worth £5 million ($6.8 million).
The 35-year-old defender joins the American-owned club, newly promoted to the Premier League, which is now managed by Scott Parker — Walker’s former teammate at both Tottenham Hotspur and England.
Walker, who joined Manchester City from Spurs in 2017, enjoyed a trophy-laden career at the Etihad, securing six Premier League titles and the Champions League among other honours. However, he fell out of favour last season and was loaned out to AC Milan.
Despite limited club appearances, Walker retained his spot in the national team and most recently featured in England's 3–1 defeat to Senegal last month, earning his 96th international cap.
Speaking after signing a two-year deal with Burnley, Walker said, “When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He's done an amazing job here, guiding the club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we're looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.”
Praising Burnley’s recent campaign, he added, “Burnley had a tremendous season last year, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can't wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.”
