Popular tennis player Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer.

The Czechoslovakia-born naturalised American said she is hoping for a "favourable outcome" and both cancers are treatable, reported Tennis.com. This is not the first time the 66-year-old is being diagnosed with cancer. In 2010, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was cleared six months later.

"The double whammy is serious, but fixable, and I'm hoping for a favourable outcome. It's going to stink for a while, but I'll fight with all I have got," said the 18-times Grand Slam singles champion.

The stage one throat cancer was found after she noticed an enlarged lymph node in the neck during November's WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas. During the tests, a lump was discovered in her breast. It was diagnosed as an unrelated cancer. She will start receiving treatment in New York later this month.

She will be taking a break from many professional appearances for a while and is now forced to quit her plans to commentate on the Australian Open.
