Rishabh Pant made history by surpassing MS Dhoni to break a world record with his half-century on Day 2 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford.

Pant, who came out to bat despite a right foot ailment, demonstrated incredible courage and drive to hit his ninth 50-plus score on English soil. That is presently the highest by any wicket-keeper batter in an away country, a record formerly held by Dhoni (8 in England).

This was also his fifth 50-plus score in the current series, a feat no other Indian cricket team wicket-keeper has ever accomplished in a single Test series.

Coming into the game, Rishabh Pant batted with a fractured toe and scored a half-century before Ben Stokes-led England finished India's first innings at 358 on the second day of the fourth Test, NDTV reported.

The injured Pant, who walked in awkwardly to a standing ovation a day after retiring hurt on 37 after taking a blow to his right foot, battled through pain to make 54 off 75 balls as Stokes finished with excellent figures of 5/72. Resuming on 264 for four, India suffered an early setback when Ravindra Jadeja edged a Jofra Archer outswinger to Harry Brook at second slip in the day's second over. Brooks made a great catch, diving forward to hold the dipping ball.

Shardul Thakur (41) and Washington Sundar (27) scored 48 runs for the sixth wicket, navigating a difficult phase after England chose to take the second new ball at the start of the day's play. England captain Stokes ended the flourishing stand when he had Thakur brilliantly caught at gully by diving Ben Duckett.
