Brasilia: A judge in Brazil slapped a huge fine on Apple for selling IPhones without chargers.

The Sao Paulo civil court judge called Apple's policy an "abusive practice" that according to the judge forces customers to buy an additional product for the first to work, according to news agency AFP.

The phone maker has to pay $20 million in fine which the company can appeal.

The fine follows another fine of $2.5 million on iPhone by Brazil's justice ministry in September over the same issue.

It has also barred the US Company from selling its iPhone 12 and 13 models without chargers.

The new fine -- 100 million reais -- was awarded by a Sao Paulo civil court judge as damages in a lawsuit filed by the Brazilian Consumers' Association, the report said.

From 2020 on iPhones come without charges over the claim of reducing electronic waste.

Judge Caramuru Afonso Francisco said in ruling that Apple's policy effectively makes costumers to buy a second product in order for the first to work.

Apple has been facing criticism across the world over its decision to go without chargers for iPhones.
