Iran thanks Indian institutions and people for support during conflict
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Iran on Wednesday voiced appreciation for the "freedom-loving" citizens, political parties, institutions, and others in India who expressed solidarity with Tehran following military strikes by the U.S. and Israel.
In a statement, the Iranian embassy praised the "genuine and invaluable support" shown to Iran but notably made no mention of the Indian government.
Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified after US airstrikes targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday.
President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the two nations on Tuesday, which appeared to be holding as of Wednesday.
New Delhi on Tuesday welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, expressing its readiness to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.
In a statement, the Iranian embassy extended "heartfelt gratitude" to India’s "freedom-loving" citizens—including political parties, parliamentarians, NGOs, religious and spiritual figures, academics, journalists, activists, and other supporters—who vocally stood by Iran during the recent military escalation.
The embassy highlighted that messages of solidarity, public support, and participation in peace-focused gatherings during the period of assault had provided "deep encouragement" to the Iranian people.
It added that the Iranian response was not only a defence of national dignity but also a stance against "grave violations of the United Nations Charter, humanitarian principles, and the foundational norms of international law".
The solidarity of nations with the people of Iran is not simply a political stance – it is an affirmation of the universal values of justice, legality, and global peace, it said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently emphasised the need to uphold the principles of international law and to resist expansionist and aggressive policies.
"We firmly believe that the unity and solidarity of nations serve as a powerful bulwark against war, violence, and injustice," the embassy said.
